The Ordinary Multi-Peptide Lash and Brow Serum | Review

It has been such a long time since I reviewed a product from The Ordinary and this is the first one since then that I really wanted to try. I bought this last December 2022 at Sephora PH because they had a holiday limited edition of their lash & brow serum — it came in two’s. It was basically sold as a buy-one-get-one product so even without a sale, I thought it was a really good deal.

NOT AN ORDINARY LASH AND BROW SERUM

The Multi-Peptide Lash and Brow Serum is a light, non-greasy formula designed to support thicker, fuller, and healthier-looking lashes and brows. By utilizing 11 active ingredients, including four peptide complexes and a series of natural extracts, this twice-daily serum works to help nourish and protect your lashes and brows while enhancing the look of density and overall appearance in as little as four weeks.

This formula contains SYMPEPTIDE XLASH® complex (with Myristoyl Pentapeptide-17), Anargy® complex (with Oligopeptide-2 and Glycoproteins), Widelash™ complex (with Biotinoyl Tripeptide-1 and Panthenol), REDENSYL™ complex (with Larix Europaea Wood Extract, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, and Zinc Chloride), CAPIXYL™ complex (Acetyl Tetrapeptide-3 and Trifolium Pratense Flower Extract), and High-Solubility Caffeine.

The Multi-Peptide Lash and Brow Serum comes in a thin, plastic tube with 5ml of product and a thin wispy, brush-like applicator. It’s a clear, watery-thin serum that doesn’t have any scent. One tube lasts me for about 6 months so these two tubes are good for a year. However, the last few weeks before I completely empty a tube, I would have to dip the wand several times to get the product.

It contains different kinds of peptides with different complexes. The peptide Myristoyl Pentapeptide-17 is included in the SymPeptide XLash, which supposedly improves the appearance and desnity of eyelashes. Anargy complex includes Oligopeptide-2 with biopeptides, that nourish and protect the hair root to help reactivate its growth cycle. Widelash complex has Biotinoyl Tripeptide-1 with panthenol which helps the cells of the hair bulb to proliferate and ensures ‘optimal hair anchorage‘. Redensyl complex (with Larix europaea wood extract, green tea leaf extract & zinc chloride) has been shown to increase hair growth by stimulating hair follicles. Capixyl complex has been proven to make eyelashes fuller and thicker as it supposedly stimulates hair growth while preventing hair loss. It contains Acetyl Tetrapeptide-3 together with butylene glycol, water, dextran and clover flower extract. Clover flower extract has biochanin A which reduces production of DHT who is responsible for a shortened hair growth cycle.

My before-and-after photos are not 4 weeks apart because honestly, I didn’t think it was doing anything after a month so I just took an after photo after about 4 months. Here’s from my brows and I think it made my outer brow area look less sparse, which has always been my concern because I was one of those who overplucked their eyebrows back in college.

And here’s the one from my lashes. I think my lashes benefitted the most from this serum. I can see the change in these photos. Before, my lashes looked wispy and uneven but after using the serum, the shorter lashes especially in the outer half of my eyelid really looks fuller.

Without these photos I wouldn’t think it did anything to my lashes or brows. But looking at them now, I’m surprised to see some difference between my before and after photos. I didn’t know what to expect with these kind of products. True, the serum didn’t lengthen my lashes or brow hairs but based on the photo, they look fuller and denser. Another thing I noticed is that I rarely experience my hair falling out from my brows and lashes so I assume the hair strands have become stronger than before. When I say hair fall from my lashes and brows, I mean that when I remove waterproof eye makeup, I would always see brow or lash hairs in my cotton pads. Now, I hardly see any hairs when I remove my eye makeup.

As of this posting, I’ve already stopped using the serum because I’ve already finished it. The last time I applied them was near the end of 2023 And I haven’t repurchased yet because I wanted to see how long these effects would last on my lashes and brow hairs, if they last. I don’t know if I will repurchase this serum. It’s not easily available where I am and The Ordinary has disappeared from Sephora PH. The only way I can get it is if I buy directly from The Ordinary website. One tube of this currently retails for $14.90 and I was able to get this duo back then for just Php850 (about $15.21 now).
